How to keep baby socks on!

I’m guessing if you are reading this — you are one of millions of parents who often wonder why your baby is always kicking off their socks!  So, why do babies love ripping off their socks all of the time?

As the creator of Sockabu, I have given this a lot of thought. When my son was a baby, he couldn’t stand wearing socks. Obviously, he couldn’t be barefoot all of the time, so I needed to know why his baby socks were frustrating him so much! Perhaps it’s the journalist in me, but I was determined to get to the bottom of this!

I questioned whether socks for babies were too loose or maybe too tight. I wondered if his feet got too hot, or perhaps the material was itchy. And then, it struck me. He was trying to play with his toes and his socks were just getting in his way.

I cut off the tops to his socks, and put them on him. He was no longer frustrated! His feet were warm, cozy and protected, while his toes remained uncovered for playtime! He no longer kicked off his socks - or tore them off the second I put them on!

To take my idea one step further, I decided to sew on a small piece of fabric onto the top of the socks. That way, I could have the option to cover his toes during nap time if his toes were cold. Essentially, I created a convertible mitten for feet! It’s the only baby sock on the planet that converts into a toeless sock for playtime.

Some companies have created products to keep socks on, essentially locking the sock onto the foot and making it nearly impossible for babies to remove the socks from their feet. I did the opposite. The last thing I wanted to do was to lock his socks on, when he was determined to get them off!

By understanding why he wanted his socks off, it was an easy solution to simply cut off the tops to his socks so he could explore and play with his toes. I felt this was a smart sock solution - that could make both babies and parents happy!
